- The C-25 Classic Incubator
- the LOM-7450 Refrigerated Incubator Shaker
The experimental capabilities of our Facility for “Protein Biochemistry and Drug Discovery” span from molecular cloning to the biochemical characterization of target proteins, protein-protein interaction analysis and protein-based drug screenings. Additionally, we have long experience with a wide variety of protein types, including intrinsically disordered proteins, membrane proteins, protein complexes, and soluble proteins.
1. Incubator Shakers
The facility is equipped with:
C-25 Classic Incubator Shaker
LOM-7450 Refrigerated Incubator Shake
They are both high-capacity shakers designed for precise oscillation, offering speeds from 30 to 300 rpm and temperature control between 4 °C and 60 °C. They are ideal for bacterial culture, from low temperature to 370C.
2. The French Pressure Cell
The French pressure cell is a dispersion unit for disintegrating bacteria, blood cells, unicellular organisms, homogenates of animal tissue, and other biological particles. Use of the pressure cell allows destruction of the cellular walls of a sample under conditions that are friendly for the native conformation of proteins.
3. The Sonifier
The 250 Sonifier is versatile equipment suitable for disrupting cells, bacteria, spores, or tissue. It is ideal for initiating and accelerating chemical, biochemical, and physical reactions, as well as for degassing liquids. With the 250 Sonifier, you can create emulsions down to 0.1 microns, homogenize immiscible liquids, and both polymerize and depolymerize various materials.
4. The UltraSonic Cleaner
The USC unit, operating at an ultrasonic frequency of 45 kHz and with the capability to heat, is ideal for dissolving solid materials in liquid solutions, for dispersing protein aggregates and for homogenizing liposomes or other substances.
5. The Centrifuges
The Thermo Scientific SL16R Centrifuge, with max. Speed 6,200 rpm, with digital display, refrigerated.
The Sorval RC 6+ refrigerated centrifuge, is designed for maximum productivity, offering 4 liters of capacity with speeds up to 22,000 rpm (55,200 xg). Exceptional acceleration and deceleration rates deliver additional time savings. Our collection of rotors includes the SS34 and SLA3000.
The Beckman Optima™ L-90K Ultracentrifuge offers the fastest separations possible in the minimum amount of time with its performance capability of 694,000 x g at up to 90,000 rpm. This versatile floor model is compatible with a wide range of superior rotors including zonal and continuous flow for large-volume separations. The Optima™ L-90K is perfect for applications such as subcellular particles and virus isolations, and high-purity plasmid DNA. Our collection of rotors includes the 70Ti and SW 40 Ti.
6. The INFINITE F50 ELISA READER
This ELISA reader is an automated 96-well microplate absorbance reader including Magellan software for professional use in a laboratory for the measurement of light absorbance (optical density) of homogeneous liquid media for in vitro diagnostic use and for assay development in drug screening approaches. It is also a compact absorbance microplate reader for ELISA uses. It provides fast photometric measurements using eight-channel optics and LED technology.
7. The Azure Biosystems 600.
This is an imaging system, used also for Western Blot imaging, captures in NIR, RGB, Chemi, UV, blue light, trans-white, and true color, giving you the most flexibility, and is backed by robust software to analyze results afterward. The Azure 600 has a 9.1-megapixel camera, providing users with publication-ready images that outperform film. This system leverages pixel binning to optimize sensitivity and resolution
8. The Telstar Bio II Advance Safety Cabinet, engineered to the highest standards of safety, ergonomics, and energy efficiency, is utilized for protein expression in eukaryotic cellular models, including insect and mammalian cells, using viral expression systems, such as the baculoviruses or adenoviruses. Following the overexpression in the cells, the proteins are purified using affinity, size exclusion and ionic chromatography approaches (see below).
9. The AKTA Purifie is an automated liquid chromatography system designed for method development and research applications, ie protein purification. The system simplifies the transition from laboratory to full scale production. Scale-up to production is predictable and trouble-free. The system features 0.001mL/min-10mL/min flow rate and 25MPa maximum pressure, one working platform for all liquid chromatography techniques suitable for protein purification, from microgram to gram scale, includes P-900 pump, UV-900 detector, pH/C-900 pH/conductivity detector, Frac-900 fraction collector.
