BRI has invested since its establishment in setting up a facility for protein expression and purification from various cellular sources (bacterial, insect, mammalian), to enable the study of protein-protein, protein-ligand and protein-membrane interactions as well as structure-based drug screenings and drug discovery, determination of IC50 values and validation in cell-based assays. The Institute is equipped to produce and purify high quality of proteins, membrane or soluble, including post-translationally modified, originating from the soluble or membrane fraction of cells, expressed intracellularly or secreted. Moreover, the facility develops in vitro based assays for screening of chemical compounds or natural products, for the identification of novel drugs in cancer, cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases. The Institute’s facility participates in “The National Research Infrastructures on Integrated Structural Biology, Drug Screening Efforts & Drug target functional characterization” “INSPIRED”, which is affiliated with the pan-European Research Infrastructure Consortium on “Integrated Structural Biology, Instruct-ERIC”.
