T. Michaelidis Laboratory

The laboratory is exploring the molecular mechanisms determining neuronal cell fate during development. Using multipotent neural progenitor cells, the current work is focused in the analysis of the mechanisms by which key developmental signals, such as the Wnt pathway, influence the expression of bHLH transcription factors at distinct stages of the neurogenic programme. In addition, our group has recently initiated activities aiming to evaluate the role of mitochondrial dysfunction in the pathogenesis of neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative diseases.
